Jason Mecier is a mosaic portrait artist who creates celebrity profiles made of various items which include, but are not limited to, pills, garbage, candy, yarn, beans and food. In some cases he will use the celebrities own garbage and collected trash to create their profile.
“Jason has spent over 10 years creating outrageous 3-D mosaic portraits of his favorite pop culture icons. Each portrait is created from the celebrities own discarded objects and junk such as broken sunglasses, make-up, gum wrappers, jewelry, deodorant, shoes, and other items. Participants include Phyllis Diller, Rosie O’Donnell, Florence Henderson, Mary-Louise Parker, Amy Sedaris, Parker Posey, Ricki Lake, RuPaul, Elvira, Margaret Cho, George Lopez, Scissor Sisters, the Go-Go’s, the B52’s, Ryan Adams, Morgan Fairchild, Kathy Najimy, Barbi Benton, Tura Satana, Susan Tyrrell, Stepfanie Kramer, Joan Van Ark, Allee Willis, Heidi Fleiss and others. Other celebrity clients include Farrah Fawcett, Pink, Bjork, Melissa Etheridge, Gloria Steinem, William Friedkin, and Scary Spice.
A man of considerable humor and imagination, mosaic portrait artist Jason Mecier began his life puttering with beans, noodles, yarn, pom poms, felt and other inexpensive craft materials so invaluable for bazaars, scout groups, gifts and home décor. While his artwork may fool the eye, there’s no fooling about his artwork – no gimmicks… no trick shots… no studio touch ups. They are one of a kind hand-crafted mosaics Mecier has created with painstaking care. His portraits have gained international attention and have been featured for many years in national consumer magazines and prestigious galleries. Mr. Mecier has a deep love for people, art and collecting things; he wants to help others enjoy what he likes to do best.”
You can also send your own “junk” for Jason to use in his work. However he does ask that you only send “nice junk” which include jewelry, sunglasses, cellphones, buttons, celebrity merchandise, vintage products and doodads as opposed to things lie batteries, cords, broken kids toys, papers, trash or recycling.
